Great series, with colored footages during WWII. It has 10 parts, each focusing on one key event. War is the focus, with a lot of strategic planning, execution, plus the key historic figures. The series cover a lot of grounds, with details that I never know before, and some of which are quite shocking. The format works well for me, with historians/academics as narrators, puts weight on the material. It is honest, no sugarcoating, fact-based, and quite informative. The only shortcoming is the omission of the Asian front of the war. Maybe someone can make a series on the Asian part of war, with high standards.

After watching the show, I was a bit depressed. Human history seems like a never ending cycle of warfares, within groups, among groups. There might be right and wrong in the beginning, but when It gets intensified, all hell broke loose. What the allies did during WWII sometimes were not any better than what the Germans did. With the weaponry and technology getting more and more advanced, the war is going to be more and more efficient, precise and deadly. Is it in the human nature to fight? Is it part of being human? If so, what is the future?
